TOEFL Essays

Summary

The writing section of the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is designed to assess a test taker's ability to write in English at an academic level. It consists of two tasks:

  1. integrated writing task
  2. independent writing task
Both tasks require strong language skills, critical thinking, and effective communication.

The independent writing task gives test takers the opportunity to express their own thoughts and opinions on a given topic. They are given a prompt and are asked to write an essay presenting a clear and well-structured argument or opinion. This task assesses the test taker's ability to generate ideas, support them with relevant examples and details, and present their thoughts in a coherent manner.

The writing section of the TOEFL is challenging because it requires not only strong language skills but also the ability to think critically and express oneself effectively within a limited time frame. Test takers must demonstrate proficiency in grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, and paragraph development. They should also showcase their ability to use a variety of sentence types and transition words to create a cohesive and well-connected piece of writing.
