Antibiotics work by either killing the bacteria or preventing its growth, thereby helping the immune system to fight off the infection. This discovery led to the development of numerous antibiotics that have helped in treating various infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, pneumonia and sepsis.
In my country, antibiotics have been instrumental in controlling the spread of many infectious diseases. The reduction in mortality rates due to infectious diseases brought about by antibiotics has been nothing short of remarkable. Furthermore, antibiotics have improved healthcare services in my country, as hospitals and clinics have been able to treat more patients effectively due to the availability of antibiotics. Overall, the increase in life expectancy can be largely attributed to the availability of antibiotics.
There are many examples of how antibiotics have impacted the lives of people in my country. For instance, the treatment of tuberculosis was once very difficult due to the long duration of treatment required. However, with the discovery of antibiotics, the treatment for tuberculosis has become much more efficient and effective. One major challenge is the development of antibiotic resistance, which happens due to the overuse and misuse of antibiotics. This has led to the development of ‘superbugs’ that are resistant to most antibiotics and are very difficult to treat. Therefore, it is important that antibiotics are used judiciously and only when necessary. Antibiotics should always be prescribed and consumed as per the doctor’s advice. Furthermore, there is a need for the development of newer antibiotics to combat the development of antibiotic resistance.
